Marc-Édouard Joubert for CLC Executive Vice-President
The son of Haitian immigrants who arrived in Montréal in the 1960s, Marc-Édouard learned early what inequality looks like when his father’s professional credentials were not recognized, forcing him to return to medical school. That experience shaped his lifelong commitment to fairness, dignity, and justice.
Marc-Édouard began his union journey while working at Canada Post, inspired by seasoned stewards who showed him what effective union representation looks like. From 2004 to 2016, he held multiple leadership roles within the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), advocating for members through local and regional grievances and fighting for accommodations for workers with functional limitations.
Elected by acclamation four times since 2016, Marc-Édouard leads the FTQ Montréal Metropolitan Regional Council, representing 103,000 workers. For nearly a decade, he has been at the helm of the country’s second-largest labour council—building power and delivering results.
Marc-Édouard believes winning for the many must never come at the expense of vulnerable workers or equity-seeking groups. An anti-racist activist for more than 20 years, he is deeply rooted in frontline struggles, coalition-building, and long-term organizing. He knows labour victories are earned through persistence, solidarity, and constant mobilization.
A lifelong learner, Marc-Édouard draws on theology, sociology, and philosophy to challenge systems of oppression and strengthen labour solidarity.
