Elect Team Unite at 2021 CLC Convention

Let’s Build The Future

To mark Black History Month this year, Team Unite stands in solidarity with and affirms our commitment to combatting anti-Black racism and supporting Black workers in our workplaces.

The inception of the Black Lives Matter movement opened the eyes of many to the ongoing racism Black people face throughout North America. The work of Black activists and the recent global uprisings in the summer of 2020 against anti-Black racism were powerful moments for all of us, a call to action and reflection on what solidarity looks like in our activism. It calls us to do our part to dismantle the damaging effects of white supremacy around the world.

Canada’s labour history is fraught with stories of anti-Black racism including discrimination and exclusion. While progress has been made, there is much work that needs to be done to address the systemic inequities that continue to affect Black workers.

As individuals and as labour leaders, Team Unite is committed to centering the lessons learned from Black liberation movements in our task to represent union members and workers in Canada. This is what building an inclusive labour movement should look like.

Black lives matter!
